2. This three-day event is organized every odd year in January with
the goal of presenting the most advanced achievements in the field of
Computational Condensed Matter Physics based on the Electronic Structure
and to foster new collaborations.
The format consists of about 30 invited contributions, augmented with
a lively poster session.

4. In previous editions the attendance was of about 150 people mainly working on electronic structure theory.
5. The largest part of the meeting will be devoted to the presentation of very new results with few tutorial elements, but we plan also to invite some very well known scientists in the field to provide at least one review talk for younger people.
6. Budget :
Costs for invited speakers and committee: 18.000 euro
Costs for partecipants from developing countries: 10.000 euro
Other Costs: 2.000 euro
Total: 30.000 euro
Request to Psi-K: 3.000 euro
7. The event is sponsored by ICTP (15.000 euro), SISSA (5.000 euro), Democritos (2.000 euro not yet approved). Travel tickets for US speakers and committee members will be paid by DOE and are not on the budget. 5.000 euro have been requested to italian MIUR, and 3.000 euro are on the present request.
8. Place: International Center of Theoretical Physics (ICTP),
Strada Costiera 12, 34014 Trieste.
The event is planned for 13-15 January 2005.
9. The meeting will be cosponsored by DOE and about one half of the speakers are from US. One of the organizer works in the US, and we expect to have also attendance of some young researchers from US. Furthermore we plan to support about 10-12 participants from developing countries with the ICTP funds.
The costs of previous editions of this conference were covered by
ICTP and SISSA. However the main goal of ICTP is the support of science in
developing countries.
There have been several colleges at ICTP which demostrate that
a sufficiently large community of persons working in electronic
structure exists also in developing countries, therefore in this
edition we would like to use part of the money that ICTP has
allocated for the conference to support participants from
developing countries. In our budget we have allocated 10.000 euros
for support to selected participants from developing countries and
therefore we still need some money to cover the expenses for speakers
and committee members.
The involvement of participants from developing countries is, in the
long term, a very important investment also for science
in Europe. We believe that it is important to
strengthen the friendly relationships with scientists of those countries and
ICTP is an ideal place in Europe to pursue these efforts
because it has already all the infrastructure and the contacts
necessary for this.
Moreover, we believe that the international collaborations that
could be fostered by this conference and the further strengthening of the
long term friendly relationships with our US colleagues are
helpful to improve the quality of research in the
European Union and could be funded by the Psi-K organization.
